Nobel Laureate Thomas Cech has landed a new venture capital job as special advisor to Morgenthaler's Life Science Team.
Dr Cech, who received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1989, will take on the role in addition to his current post as director of the University of Colorado's Initiative of Molecular Biotechnology.
He will be responsible for assisting Morgenthaler partners in identifying, evaluating and reviewing new investment opportunities in the life sciences sector.
Commenting on the appointment, head of the Morgenthaler Life Science Team Dr Ralph Christoffersen said he was "pleased and honoured" to have Dr Cech onboard.
"We believe that his vast network of scientific and academic contacts will be complementary and extremely beneficial to us as we look for new life science opportunities," he added.
Dr Cech served as president of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, which is the largest science philanthropy in the US, before switching to his current role at Colorado.
His appointment comes after Morgenthaler last year announced the appointment of Jason Lettmann as vice-president of its Life Science Team.
