Strategy and Ventures role - Financial Services Strategy
Our client provides top-level strategic consultancy to large corporates and support for ventures in a number of industries. Their core expertise is in advising senior management on major and complex decisions, where they offer powerful analytics, practical experience and bespoke solutions through a distinctive and client-centred approach. Their clients range from multi-national corporations and FTSE-100 companies to high-potential start-ups and buyout teams. They have expertise in three verticals: financial services, carbon and clean technology, and TMT.
Over the past four years, the team has worked extensively with the senior management of:
• 4 of the FTSE top 10
• 3 leading telecoms companies and 3 mobile operators
• 3 of the leading private equity firms
• 2 of the world’s leading financial services companies
• 1 of the world’s leading oil majors
In addition to their consulting practice, they are involved in a range of venture activities, including corporate finance fund raisings, start-up ventures, MBOs, MBIs, and turnarounds. In the last three years, their ventures have included the formation of a hotel chain, setting-up a pub company, advising on the $130m acquisition of a US telecoms company, commercialising an early stage technology business, advising a number of leading private equity firms on potential acquisitions, and they are currently completing a MBO of a UK technology firm and helping raise $250m for a US renewable energy company.
The position
Due to the growth of the company there is an opportunity for outstanding individuals to join the team. In particular they are seeking a manager who would be expected to:
ensure the on-time, on-budget delivery of strategy consulting projects for major companies and for smaller ventures;
provide intellectual leadership and guidance for the team on problem solving and analysis;
assist and drive venture opportunities, including originating venture opportunities, assistance in fundraisings, and support to business commercialisations, venture capital opportunities, MBOs, MBIs and turnarounds;
ensure the highest standards of quality;
develop and maintain lasting and economically valuable relationships with clients based on quality of work and empathy of style;
contribute to the development of them as a as a business, including support for business development activities and for internal processes.
This role provides the opportunity to work closely with their highly experienced Partners and to play a key role in the overall development of their business.
Their reward structure is highly competitive and, in addition to an attractive salary, also includes a share of the firm’s profit and participation in the equity profits arising from our entrepreneurial activities.
Candidate profile
They are a cosmopolitan, international team with varied personalities and wide-ranging interests. Their style is informal and entrepreneurial. We are looking for people with a “can-do” attitude and the desire to make a real difference to both the firm and its clients, rather than to fulfill a defined role in a hierarchy.
The ideal candidate would:
have a total of 8-15 years total working experience, including at least 5 years in consulting, as well as possible experience working in some other environment (such as industry, corporate finance, etc);
have direct, hands-on experience and expertise in financial analysis and valuation, as well as excellent financial modeling and analytical skills;
have outstanding academics (at least a 2:1 or equivalent from a top university);
fit in with the culture of our firm (be entrepreneurial and to see the “big picture” as well as to understand the critical details, while contributing to the development and growth of the company);
have a valid UK work permit and be available for interview in London.
They are also particularly looking for the candidates to have significant experience within the financial services industry. Experience within the other sectors mentioned in the company description section would be an advantage.
